Odisha: Narrow escape for eight fishermen as boat capsizes near Satabhaya

Kendrapara, Oct 10: At least eight fishermen narrowly escaped death after a fishing boat capsized in the sea near Satabhaya under Rajnagar block in Odisha’s Kendrapara district late last night.

Fortunately, all eight fishermen on board managed to swim safely to shore.

According to reports, the ill-fated boat named 'Tarini-2' had set out from Bhadrak with eight fishermen for fishing. The incident occurred between 1:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. for reasons yet to be determined. The vessel reportedly sank near the Satabhaya coast, close to the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary — a region known for its strong currents and deep waters.

After the boat overturned, the fishermen swam for nearly an hour before reaching the shore. Although they escaped unhurt, the boat, along with its catch and equipment, was lost to the sea.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
