Sambalpur, Oct 25: The 22-year-old youth, who had gone missing from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla after being unable to bear the pain of his mother’s suffering from cancer, was found dead on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Sourav Sambit Tripathy (24), a resident of Mahalaxminagar in Balangir.
As per reports, the youth’s body was recovered from power canal near the Chipilima Hydro Electric Project in Odisha’s Sambalpur. Police have seized his body and sent it for post-mortem.
It is worth noting that the youth’s mother has been battling cancer for several months and was admitted to VIMSAR, Burla for treatment. He had been staying by her side day and night, caring for her.
However, on the evening of October 22, he suddenly went missing from the hospital. His mother searched the wards and surrounding areas frantically but could not find him. Soon after, she discovered a message on her mobile phone — Sourav’s last words: “Ma, I can’t bear to see your suffering. I can’t live without you. I am going to the Burla canal to end my life.”
According to the mobile message, he is suspected to have taken his own life by jumping into the power canal.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
