Berhampur, May 1: In a suspected instance of unrequited love, a minor girl was allegedly hacked to death by a youth after she rejected his proposal in Gopalpur area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday morning.
The accused has been identified as a native of Jatni police station area in Khurda district.
As per reports, the youth, who was allegedly obsessed with the minor girl, broke into her home and attacked her with a sharp weapon.
In the brutal assault, the girl sustained serious injuries to her hands and body. She was found lying in a pool of blood inside the house.
The family alleged that the murder was driven by the youth’s one-sided obsession with the girl. They also claim to have earlier filed a complaint with the police, reporting that the accused had been harassing her.
On being informed, Gopalpur police arrived at the scene and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
An investigation has been initiated into the matter and efforts are on to trace the accused, said the police.
