Bhubaneswar, Sep 16: The state’s average annual day temperature may rise 0.8 to 2.8 degree Celsius by 2040, according to the Climate Change Action Plan prepared by the Odisha government for 10 years.
Similarly, the average annual day temperature may rise to 0.8 to 2.8 degree Celsius between 2046 -2065.
Besides, the average night temperature may rise between 0.3 to 2.7 degree Celsius during 2020-39, which has been predicted between 1.2 to 4.2 degree Celsius rise during 2046-2065.
The report further says, if the temperature rises at the highest rate, Odisha may experience a 0.7 to 1.4 degree Celsius rise in day temperature by 2039 and 2-3.3 degree Celsius during 2046-2065.
Similarly, the mercury in the night may rise 0.6 to 3.9 degree Celsius by 2037 and 2-4.9 between 2046 -2065.
Director of the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) at SOA University, Sarat Chandra Sahu said the world is suffering from the effect of greenhouse gases. Following this, the state will experience nonseasonal and unexpected rainfall. We have to be prepared for the future.
