Odisha: Man gets 20-yr RI for raping minor girl in Phulbani

Phulbani, Aug 21: A Special Fast Track POCSO Court in Odisha’s Phulbani awarded 20-years of rigorous imprisonment to a youth for raping a minor girl.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. He has to undergo additional imprisonment for a period of two years if he fails to pay the fine amount.
The convict has been identified as Ganesh Kahar (20), a resident of Gaerbata village under Sadar police limits.
As per reports, the 14-year-old victim was studying and residing at the hostel of a government high school in 2023. During a monthly health examination, it was discovered that she was pregnant.
After investigation, it was revealed that the accused had repeatedly engaged in physical relations with the victim during the summer vacation. Subsequently, the victim gave birth to a male child at Brahmapur Medical College.
Based on a written complaint by the school's headmistress, Sadar Police registered a case and arrested the accused before producing him in court.
The court found the accused guilty based on the testimony of 19 witnesses and medical reports, and the police investigation.
It has directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 6 Lakh as compensation to the victim for damages.
