Puri, Apr 18: In a tragic incident, a farmer reportedly died and his father sustained serious injuries after lightning struck them while working in farmland in Balanga locality of Odisha’s Puri district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Jaga Barik and the incident has been reported from Padmapur village under Balanga police limits in the district.
As per reports, Jaga and his father Babula Barik were busy working in their farmland when the lightning struck them. As a result, Jaga died on the spot and Babula sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to the Sakshigopal Community Health Centre in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for several districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms and strong winds between April 18 and April 22.
