Bhubaneswar, August 28: Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended a Junior Revenue Assistant of Patana Tehsil office in Koenjhar district for taking bribe of Rs 6,000.

Accused B.H Umashankar was caught red handed while demanding and taking the bribe from a person for processing file in a mutation case and to facilitate issuance of ROR in his name and his other coparceners.

According to Vigilance, the complainant had applied for mutation of their land through online mode on June 3, 2026 as per the rules prescribed by the Odisha Government in the Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) Department.

It was alleged that when the applicant enquired about the status of the case, the accused Junior Revenue Assistant demanded bribe of Rs 6,000 to process the mutation file.

Aggrieved over the undue approach of the Government official, the applicant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities.

Accordingly, a team of Odisha Vigilance laid a trap today and nabbed accused JRA Umashankar while he was taking the bribe in the garage of the Tahasil office. The entire tainted bribe money Rs 6,000 has been recovered from the possession of the accused and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches were underway at two locations linked to Umashankar to investigate the possible possession of disproportionate assets.

In this connection, a case has been registered at the Baleshwar Vigilance police station under PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Further investigation underway in the case.
