Odisha: Jatani Court Sentences Man to One Year Rigorous Imprisonment in Cheating Case

The Jatani JMFC cum Civil Judge (Junior Division) Court has sentenced Dilip Kumar Sahoo to one year of rigorous imprisonment in a cheating case, along with a fine of ₹20,000. The court clarified that if the fine is not paid, Sahoo will serve an additional two months in jail.

Bhubaneswar, May 14: The Jatani JMFC cum Civil Judge (Junior Division) Court has sentenced Dilip Kumar Sahoo to one year of rigorous imprisonment in a cheating case, along with a fine of ₹20,000. The court clarified that if the fine is not paid, Sahoo will serve an additional two months in jail.

Judge Debendra Nath Bagh passed the verdict after finding Sahoo guilty of defrauding several youths of over ₹10 lakh by promising them government jobs. According to reports, after collecting the money, Sahoo allegedly went into hiding.

The victims filed a complaint with the Jatani police station on July 23, 2025. The case was registered under Section 318 (4) of the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS). Following the complaint, the Jatani police arrested Sahoo and presented him before the court. Sub-Inspector Abinash Chand led the investigation and submitted the relevant documents in court.

The prosecution, represented by Assistant Public Prosecutors Yotismita Mallik and Manas Kumar Subudhi, successfully argued the case, resulting in Sahoo’s conviction.
