Berhampur, Sept 28: Police have seized a large cache of illegal firecrackers worth over Rs 2 lakh from a rice godown in Chhatrapur Notified Area Council (NAC) of Odisha’s Ganjam district and detained one individual in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, Additional Tahsildar and Chhatrapur police along with other officials conducted the raid late last night in Park Sahi area.
Authorities recovered a substantial quantity of firecrackers stored inside the rice godown during the raid. Police confirmed that the total value of the seized materials exceeds Rs 2 lakh.
The stock was stored without the necessary permits and was deemed illegal under current regulations governing the storage and sale of explosives and fireworks.
The seizure comes at a time when Dussehra celebrations are underway and the Diwali festival is approaching.
According to the latest reports, Chhatrapur police have detained the owner of the godown for questioning. Authorities are investigating the source of the firecrackers and whether the individual is linked to a larger distribution network.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the legality of the procurement and identify any accomplices involved in the illegal firecracker trade.
