Bhubaneswar, Mar 24: Odisha Urban Development Department (UD) has hiked holding tax in 11 urban bodies across the state. Responding to an assembly question put forth by Jatani MLA Suresh Kumar Routray, Minister for Urban Development Pratap Jena said that the government has hiked the holding tax in as many as four municipalities and seven Notified Area Councils(NAC). Variable holding tax is generally decided by the valuation team appointed by the urban development department. Accordingly, holding tax was revised in Talcher, Keonjhar, Barbil and Joda municipality along with Champua, Digapahandi,Aska,Baliguda, Dharmagarh, Nuapada and Hindol NAC. For Bhubaneswar, the General Administration Department had finalized new bench mark of valuation on February 18, 2019 that was scheduled to be effective from the first of April. However, the levy of revised tax was put on hold as asked by the Chief Minister till the disposal of case in this connection pending in the Orissa High Court, said the Minister.
