Bhubaneswar, May 28: In response to the recent rise in Covid-19 cases across India, Odisha's State Public Health Director, Nilakantha Mishra, reassured the public on Tuesday that there is no reason for panic. Despite India reporting over 1,000 active cases, Dr. Mishra emphasized that the situation in Odisha remains under control, with the hospitalization rate remaining low and the symptoms in most cases limited to mild cold and cough.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Mishra confirmed the detection of two new Covid-19 variants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, although he stated that only one case of the new variant has been reported in Odisha. The patient, who is currently in stable condition, is being closely monitored.
A meeting to review the situation will take place today at 12 noon, chaired by the Union Health Secretary. Dr. Mishra assured the public that the state health department is continuously monitoring the situation and is in close coordination with the central government, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to ensure a swift response.
"Rest assured, we are fully prepared to take necessary actions if needed," Dr. Mishra stated, urging the public to remain calm and avoid panic. He emphasized that the authorities are equipped to manage the evolving Covid-19 situation effectively.
