Bhubaneswar, Feb 25:The new Brazil and Britain strain of Covid-19 now threats the whole world. Meanwhile, the WHO has alerted that corona virus may linger for the next seven years that has put more challenge before the human race.

At the same time, people are not taking the basic precautions like using of face mask and maintaining social distance putting themselves vulnerable to the deadly virus.

Government has lifted lockdown and shutdown after the pandemic weakened its spread. As a result, offices, market places, malls and institutions have been relaxed regarding the aspect of social distancing.

Only face mask wearing was stringently in force to beat the coronavirus, which is the easiest means to check Covid-19 virus to infect someone directly. A mask prevents direct transmission of the covid-19 virus from one person to another though cough, sneeze, mucous and exhaled droplets.

Corona being a novel threat to the mankind, Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) prescribed mask as the best solution to beat covid-19 transmission in the community.

At the first stage of infection, CDC and WHO preferred specified N-95 masks more effective. Later, they generalised a common cotton mask duo to the lack of N-95 masks everywhere.

Since the March 2020, wearing mask is a mandate for all states in about 198 countries in the world. As per the epidemiologic report of the WHO a mask has prevented Corona in many ways to resist community transmission.

As of now, all states including Odisha have withdrew stay-at-home, lockdown and shutdown orders. But, using mask in public places has not been withdrawn yet. All the business establishments, offices, industries have been allowed full-fledged  opening with one condition to ensure mask use in mass.

Mostly in the crowded cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela and Barhampur people have forgotten to use mask with the reducing rate of corona infection. As the death toll in the state falls day by day including positive cases, people are rarely seen in common places wearing masks. Those who wear masks occasionally, they do not use it properly. That’s why mask sale in medicine stores and special mask counters has drastically fallen. Even the street vendors, those used to sell thousands of masks a day, now sell below hundred. According to some mask sellers, mask selling has seen a drastic fall after Corona vaccination.

On the other hand, the government has gone flexible to enforce use of masks. No checking, no mass awareness, no enforcement to the offenders have made people forget mask. Even no guidelines or standard operation procedure (SOP) have been issued afresh on using masks.

To note that, as a precaution against the new genome of corona in Britain and Brazil – Japan, Korea and California have mandated use of mask for good. They treat a small mask as the biggest crusader of corona transmission.
