Bhubaneswar, April 1: There are as many as 31.9 lakh registered construction workers in Odisha so far. All such eligible beneficiaries have been issued identity cards by the Labour Welfare Board, said Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Minister Susanta Singh.
Answering the question of Congress MLA Suresh Kumar Routray, Singh said that the Labour Department enrolls 18-60 year old professionals, those who at least work for 90 days in a job year in civil construction work as workers.
However, the government has rejected 39 illegally registered labour cards following which, their identity cards have been consequently withdrawn. Subsequently, they are debarred from getting any welfare assistance as a construction labourer, said Singh.
