Odisha has 32 lakh registered construction workers

Bhubaneswar, April 1:  There are as many as 31.9 lakh registered construction workers in Odisha so far. All such eligible beneficiaries have been issued identity cards by the Labour Welfare Board, said Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Minister Susanta Singh. Answering the question of Congress MLA  Suresh Kumar Routray, Singh said that the  Labour Department enrolls 18-60 year old  professionals, those who at least work for 90 days in a job year in civil construction work as workers. However, the government has rejected 39 illegally registered labour cards following which,their identity cards have been consequently  withdrawn. Subsequently, they are debarred from getting any welfare assistance as a construction labourer, said Singh.
