Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, August 12: In a major push to showcase Odisha’s rich handloom and handicraft heritage to consumers beyond the state, the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS), under the Department of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, has opened a special pop-up store at DLF Avenue, Saket, New Delhi.

The ‘ORMAS Pop-up Store’, inaugurated on August 11 by Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Ravi Narayan Naik, will remain open until September 10, offering consumers in the national capital an opportunity to explore and purchase a wide range of traditional products from Odisha.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Girish S.N., IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water; Dr Monika Priyadarshini, Chief Executive Officer of ORMAS; senior government officials and other dignitaries.

The store features more than 30 varieties of handloom and handicraft products sourced from 14 districts of Odisha. Among the key attractions are Sambalpuri Ikat and silk sarees, Kotpad sarees, Pattachitra sarees, Habaspuri and Habaspuri silk sarees, Tussar and Tussar silk sarees, and Khandua Patta sarees.

Traditional Sambalpuri and Dhokra jewellery, along with other products reflecting Odisha’s diverse craftsmanship and artistic traditions, are also available at the store.

The initiative is aimed at creating direct market linkages between Odisha’s weavers, artisans and community-based organisations (CBOs) and consumers in Delhi. Officials said the initiative would help expand market access, enhance brand visibility, promote business growth and strengthen the livelihoods of artisans and weavers.

The launch of the ORMAS Pop-up Store in New Delhi marks an important step in taking Odisha’s distinctive handloom and handicraft products to the national marketplace while creating new avenues for artisans to reach a wider consumer base.
