Jajpur, Aug 30: A tragic incident has shocked Gobandia village under Bikramtiran Panchayat in Barachana block of Jajpur district, where a girl and her grandfather died within hours of each other.
The deceased have been identified as Ankita Priyadarshini (15), a Class 10 student, and her grandfather Babaji Paramanik (75).
According to reports, Ankita was bitten by a venomous snake late on Thursday night while she was asleep at home. She was first taken to Mahanga Community Health Centre and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, as her condition worsened. However, doctors declared her dead during treatment.
When her body was being brought back to the village after post-mortem, her grandfather Babaji suffered a heart attack upon hearing the news. He was rushed to a hospital but died on the way.
The deaths of the granddaughter and grandfather on the same day have cast a pall of gloom over the entire village. Their last rites were performed together at the village cremation ground.
