Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: The Odisha government has decided to seal the borders with neighbouring states to prevent entry of paddy during the Kharif procurement season.
Borders of Odisha with neighbouring states will be sealed during paddy procurement. Farmers from other states cannot sell paddy in Odisha, said Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari today.
Checkings on these borders will be intensified during procurement of paddy, he said.
The decision has been taken during a meeting on paddy procurement chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Pujari also said that earlier the quality of paddy was checked twice – once at the mandi and then in the mills.
But now the quality of the paddy will be ascertained only once at the mandis so that the farmers do not become the victim of ‘katni-chhatni’ (price reduction based on grain quality assessment), the Minister said.
Notably, the state government has decided to provide Rs 3100 per quintal of paddy.
