Bhubaneswar, September 16: The Odisha government plans to plant 75 lakh saplings in one day as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” campaign, commemorating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. This national drive aims to plant 1.5 crore saplings nationwide.

Forest Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia emphasized the role of trees in combating pollution and climate change, urging proper care for the saplings to ensure their growth. The campaign will particularly focus on industrial and drought-prone areas.

Last year, Odisha ranked fourth nationally by planting 6.72 crore saplings. This year, under CM Mohan Charan Majhi, the state has set an ambitious target of 7.5 crore saplings, with 4.7 crore already planted. The government has invited widespread participation from all communities, with photos to be uploaded to the “Meri LiFE” portal for tracking progress.

Satyabrata Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary, directed all officials to complete the plantation by sunset on September 17 and ensure data upload on the portal.
