Bhubaneswar: Odisha will not immediately reduce VAT on petrol/diesel. The Government will examine Union Finance Minister’s request to reduce VAT on fuel, said State Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera.
“The State Government will examine the appeal of the Union Finance Minister,” said Behera.
Earlier today the Central Government announced a total relief of Rs 2.5 per litre on petrol and diesel in collaboration with oil companies. Union Finance Minister Jaitley urged all the States to reduce the same amount of VAT on petrol and diesel.
Jaitley announced a total relief of Rs 2.50 per litre on petrol and diesel in collaboration with oil companies. The Central Government will cut excise duty by Rs 1.5 per litre on petrol and diesel, while oil marketing companies will absorb the loss of Rs 1 per litre.
Quoting Jaitley, Union Oil Minister too requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to provide relief on fuel prices in tandem with Central Government’s decision so that the consumer gets a total relief of Rs 5 per litre.
