Odisha govt orders suspension of DL for violation of Helmet Law

Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: The Odisha government has ordered suspension of Driving License (DL) for violation of Helmet Law. Principal Secretary to Government Madhu Sudan Padhi has written a letter to the Director General of Police and the state Transport Commissioner to take steps for suspension off DL of the offender in case of detection of violation of Helmet Law. The offender shall be punished with a fine of Rs 1,000 and will be disqualified for holding license for a period of three months, the letter read. He has also requested to submit a district wise report on suspension of DL for violation of Helmet Law during 2019 and during January to October, 2020 for appraisal of the Supreme Court Committee within seven days. During the year 2019, in the state, two-wheelers were involved in 4688 road accidents out of total 11,064 road accidents in which 2398 persons died out of total 5333 deaths. Out of the 2398 persons died, 2156 persons were not wearing helmet at the time of accident. Wearing of helmet could have saved many lives, the letter read.
