Bhubaneswar, July 25: In a major relief to hundreds of aspirants, the Odisha government has increased the upper age limit for Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment by three years—now 28 years for general candidates and 33 for SC/ST categories.
The decision was informed to the High Court on Wednesday through an affidavit filed by Advocate General Pitambar Acharya. The government clarified that the relaxation applies only to this specific recruitment cycle and will not serve as a precedent for future jobs.
The move comes after around 300 candidates challenged the earlier age cap of 25 years, arguing that no SI recruitment had taken place since 2021, and many aged out due to delays.
The Odisha Police Recruitment Board had earlier invited applications for 933 posts, including 609 SIs, 253 Armed SIs, 47 Fire Station Officers, and 24 Assistant Jailors. The recruitment notification required candidates to be between 21 and 25 years old as of January 1, 2024.
Following the affidavit, Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra concluded the case, and the age-relaxed candidates can now proceed with the application process.
