Bhubaneswar, June 16: The Odisha government has deferred the reopening of schools for the upcoming academic session, shifting the date from June 18 to June 20, 2025.

This move comes in response to prevailing high temperatures and the ongoing seasonal transition into the monsoon.

All schools across the state will now resume classes on June 20. In a directive, the government has instructed that mid-day meals (MDM) must be provided to students from the very first day of reopening.

The School and Mass Education Department communicated the revised reopening date to all District Education Officers (DEOs) via an official letter.

“In partial modification of the instructions, it is to inform you that the date of reopening of the schools may be read as 20.06.2025 instead of 18.06.2025. All other instructions communicated vide the letters shall stand as such,” the notice stated.

Furthermore, DEOs have been asked to ensure the immediate implementation of the mid-day meal programme for all children aged 6 to 14, beginning on the day schools reopen after the summer break.
