Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: The Odisha government has increased the uniform allowance for officers and employees of the state’s jail organisation.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the proposal aimed at providing enhanced financial support to prison personnel.
Under the approved decision, the annual uniform allowance for eligible jail officers has been doubled. The allowance for 378 officers, ranging from the DIG of Prisons to Assistant Matrons, has been increased from ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 per year.
Similarly, the annual uniform allowance for 2,122 Chief Warders, Warders and Women Warders has been doubled from ₹4,000 to ₹8,000.
The revised allowance will benefit a total of approximately 2,500 officers and employees of the state’s prison organisation.
The government is expected to incur an additional annual expenditure of ₹96.22 lakh as a result of the enhancement.
The new uniform allowance will come into effect from the current financial year, providing increased support to prison personnel towards the maintenance and purchase of their official uniforms.
