Bhubaneswar, October 1: The Odisha government will start paddy procurement from November 1 for the Kharif marketing season 2024-25 with Rs 3,100 per quintal, informed BJP spokesperson Samir Ranjan Dash on Tuesday.
The state cooperative department will initiate the procurement process from Sohela in Bargarh district, said Dash during a press conference in Bhubaneswar.
He criticized the previous BJD government for failing to deliver on its promise to provide a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal to farmers during the previous kharif season.
He highlighted that under the current BJP government, led by Mohan Charan Majhi, farmers will receive more than Rs 800 per quintal as part of paddy procurement efforts.
Dash further added that 2,510 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) and 210 LAMPS units have been integrated online to facilitate the procurement process.
He acknowledged that 1,542 panchayats are still without Agriculture Cooperative Societies, but efforts are underway to establish such societies in these areas soon.
The Odisha government aims to procure one crore tonnes of paddy from farmers during this kharif marketing season.
