Odisha: Gold & silver ornaments worth over Rs 30 lakh robbed at gunpoint

Mayurbhanj, Apr 24: In a broad daylight heist, armed miscreants allegedly robbed gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 30 lakh from a local jeweler after taking him at gunpoint in Khunta area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district last night.

As per reports, the jeweler, identified as Sundar Narayan Sahu, was returning home on his bike at around 8 PM after closing his shop near Basipitha Chhak in the locality. According to his daily routine, he was carrying some ornaments from his store.

While he was on his way back to home, he noticed some unknown individuals following him. Suspecting some foul play, he tried to speed up and escape. However, at around 8:30 PM four masked youths on two Pulsar bikes intercepted him near the Balimunduli Gangahar River Bridge.

Thereafter, the miscreants took him at gunpoint and assaulted him. Later, they forcefully took away the bag containing gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 30 lakh and fled from the spot.

Upon getting the information, Khunta police arrived at the spot and took stock of the situation. 

A probe has been launched into the matter and efforts are on to trace and nab the looters involved, said the police.
