Odisha: Four held with ganja worth over Rs 8.5 lakh in Cuttack

Cuttack, Oct 12: In a major crackdown, Excise officials in Odisha’s Kendrapara arrested four people for allegedly smuggling ganja and seized 24 kilograms of the contraband, valued at over Rs 8.5 lakh.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ganesh Barik (27) from Phulbani Town in Kandhamal, Mithun Digal (32) from Balipadara in Kandhamal, Balaram Mondal (23) and Saadhin Mondal (38) from West Bengal’s Murshidabad.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials led by Excise Inspector Dhiren Kumar Behera conducted a raid at Telengapentha Chhaka on NH 16 in Cuttack and made the seizures. The accused, arrested under the NDPS Act for smuggling ganja, have been forwarded to court.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
