Sundargarh, Sept 25: As many as five persons were killed and several others sustained injuries after the bus they were traveling in collided head-on with a truck in K Balang area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Thursday.

As per reports, the mishap took place on the National Highway number 520 in Koida Block area under K Balang Police station limits when the private bus, named Lingaraj, was traveling from Rourkela to Koida. It collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

Upon getting the information, police along with fire service personnel arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation. The officials actively worked to break through the bus windows with cutters and rescued the passengers trapped in the mangle vehicles.

The death toll could rise, as several passengers remain trapped inside the wreckage of the bus.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
