Odisha: Family alleges loot of Rs 3,000 and valuables after teacher succumbs to Covid

Sambalpur, May 8: A Covid victim's body was robbed of ATM card, mobile phone and cash before the hospital handed over the body to family members. Such incident has been spotted in Sambalpur Covid Hospital. The family members alleged that mobile phone, cash and ATM card were looted from the deceased who was undergoing treatment at Sambalpur Covid Hospital. Sources said, a teacher of Kuchinda village who had tested positive for coronavirus died at the Covid-19 hospital in Sambalpur city. The teacher had kept a mobile phone, an ATM card and Rs 3,000 cash with him in thehospital. However, he died at around 12 pm on Friday after his health condition deteriorated. Upon receiving the information when the family members reached the hospital, the concerned persons handed over them only a pair of pant of the patient. When they asked for mobile phone, ATM card and cash, the hospital staff said that he had no such things. When they repeatedly contacted the phone number, the phone rang for a while and later someone cut off the call. Shortly afterwards, the phone was switched off, the teacher's newphew Chandan Meher alleged.
