Rairangpur, Oct 10: In a major crackdown, Excise officials busted a fake foreign liquor manufacturing unit in Tiring area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district and arrested six persons in this connection.
Among the arrested are three residents of Jharkhand’s Kuali area, one local from Jata village under Tiring police limits, and another youth from Purulia area in West Bengal. The mastermind behind the racket is reportedly absconding.
Acting on a tip-off, the excise officials raided the unit on Thursday afternoon while production was in progress. During the raid, they recovered numerous bottles of fake liquor of various brands, empty bottles, caps, stickers, and chemicals used in its manufacturing.
Authorities also seized fake liquor worth over Rs 3 lakh, several crates filled with bottles, along with large quantities of raw materials including chemicals, and packaging equipment.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
