Bhubaneswar, March 19: Former Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda, the main accused in the high-profile murder case of BJP leader and senior advocate Pitabas Panda, has been discharged from MKCG Medical College and Hospital on Thursday. He has now been transferred back to Berhampur Circle Jail.
Panda had been receiving medical treatment at the hospital for an extended period due to health issues, which arose while he was in judicial custody. He was admitted after experiencing severe health complications. His treatment took place amid the ongoing trial concerning the shocking murder that took place in October 2025. Today, after being discharged, Panda was escorted back to jail under tight security.
The former MLA was arrested in November 2025, alongside several others, including ex-Berhampur mayor Siba Shankar Das, in connection with the murder of Pitabas Panda, who was shot near his residence. Police investigations suggest that the motives behind the murder involved political rivalry, personal conflicts, and financial disputes.
