Bhubaneswar, Nov 25: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday said that Odisha has entered a phase of true industrial transformation—one that is poised to reshape the state’s economic future.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the ‘Samruddha Odisha 2036 Conclave’ organised by the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited (UCCIL).
Majhi presented the government’s vision for accelerating Odisha’s economic expansion from its present $120-billion size to $500 billion by 2036.
This ambitious nearly five-fold growth, he noted, would be fuelled by fast-paced development in infrastructure, industrialisation and skill enhancement.
The Chief Minister stated that projects worth ₹2 lakh crore have already taken off, with foundation stones laid for 84 industries that together will create employment for 1.64 lakh people. He added that major corporate groups—including Vedanta, Adani, JSW, Indian Oil and Zoho—are advancing significant projects in the state, while interest is rising in sectors such as textiles and green energy.
Majhi also underscored major improvements in roads, railways, ports and airports, achieved through coordinated efforts between the State and Central governments.
Outlining plans for Bhubaneswar’s emergence as a key technology hub of eastern India, he said FinTech and InsurTech firms are expanding their presence in the city. Two semiconductor units have already been established with the support of leading IT companies, and transformative projects like the Capital Region Ring Road are expected to accelerate urban development across the Cuttack–Bhubaneswar region.
Industries and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain added that the government has earned the people’s confidence within a year and has set Odisha on the course of an “industrial revolution.”
