Odisha: Elderly man killed in group clash during Ganesh Visarjan in Nayagarh

Nayagarh, Sept 1: In a tragic incident, an elderly man was killed in a clash between two groups during Ganesh Visarjan in Fategarh area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Harihar Swain (62), and the incident has been reported from Karadapalli village under Fategarh police limits in the district.
As per reports, the clash began when a group of youths from Pathapur village, celebrating Ganesh Visarjan with a DJ, encountered another group in Karadapalli village under Fategarh police station.
The situation escalated into a scuffle, during which Harihar Swain, who tried to intervene and calm the situation, was attacked and fell to the ground.
He was immediately rushed to Bhapur Community Health Centre (CHC), where the attending doctors declared him dead.
In response, villagers staged a protest, blocking the road with Swain’s body, demanding the arrest of all the accused.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and pacified the agitators. The blockade was cleared after the SDPO assured the villagers that action would be taken against the perpetrators.
Police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. The cops also seized the DJ vehicle and detained the driver, while a search operation is underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
