Odisha Education Minister writes to Jharkhand Government to restore Odia language in Elementary teacher’s training course

Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: Odisha Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Friday, wrote letter to the Jharkhand government urging restoration of Odia language in the curriculum of Elementary Teacher’s training. In his letter to Jharkhand Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto, Dash mentioned that  Odisha and Jharkhand are having a long-standing homogeneous cultural heritages and special identities. As a recognition to it, Jharkhand has accepted the Odia language as its second language in school curricula. On the other hand, Odisha government has been sponsoring for as many as 160 teachers through the Utkal Sammilani to impart education in Odia in the Odia speaking tracts like Sadheikala, Kharasuan and many more estates. Besides, as many as 35 Odia Medium schools are functioning in Jharkhand with the patronage of Odisha government. Thus, the Jharkhand government should take favourable steps to restore the Odia language in the teacher’s training course, raid the letter. Notably, the 7th paper Odia language has been eliminated from the teacher’s training course in Jharkhand, which was prevailing since long ago.
