Berhampur, Oct 9: In a shocking incident, a mentally unstable beggar was brutally beaten to death with sticks by a group of miscreants, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, in the Sorada area of Odisha’s Ganjam district during the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Sisir Muni (55), a resident of Singapur village under Dharakote block.

According to sources, late on Wednesday night, a group of intoxicated individuals assaulted the beggar with sticks near Swargadwara village under Gochha panchayat in Sorada, resulting in his death on the spot. The motive behind the brutal attack is yet to be determined.

After being alerted by villagers today morning, a team from Sorada Police station reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.

Police have detained two suspects for questioning in connection with the murder.
