Baripada, July 16: In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly thrashed his elderly parents to death in an inebriated condition in Baisinga area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Hadibandhu Sahoo (85) and his wife Shantilata Sahoo (78), while the accused is their son, Himanshu Sahoo. The incident has been reported from Dhanapal village in Managobindapur panchayat under Baisinga police limits in the district.
According to reports, the accused returned home intoxicated and later had a heated argument with his elderly parents. In fit of rage, Himanshu brutally killed his elderly father and mother by beating them with a hammer.
Later some locals spotted Himanshu's elderly mother's mutilated dead body lying in the courtyard of their home. Himanshu was spotted sitting on a bed. Suspecting some foul play, locals alerted the police.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and apprehended the accused for questioning. The cops also seized the bodies of the elderly couple and sent them for post-mortem.
A thorough investigation into this brutal act is underway to ascertain the exact motive and search for the weapon used in the crime is on, said the police.
