Koraput, Dec 18:Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday apprehended Sukma Hansdah, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for submitting a case diary in court.
According to Vigilance officials, the trap was laid earlier today after a relative of an accused approached the agency with a complaint. Hansdah was the investigating officer in a case registered at Dasmantpur police station, in which the accused had been remanded to judicial custody. The court had called for the case diary, and submission of the document was necessary for consideration of bail.
It was alleged that Hansdah demanded Rs 20,000 from the accused’s relative to produce the case diary in court. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught the officer red-handed while receiving the bribe amount.
The entire tainted bribe money of Rs 20,000 was recovered from Hansdah’s possession and seized.
Following the trap, Vigilance officials also launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked to the accused officer to probe possible disproportionate assets.
In this connection, Koraput Vigilance Police Station Case No. 39/2025 has been registered against Hansdah under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
