Cuttack, August 26: A dacoity attempt was foiled and four criminals nabbed by Chauliaganj Police last night. They were produced in court today.

According to police, four criminals had last night assembled near Lighthouse area to commit a robbery at a petrol pump nearby. On a tip off, police raided the area and arrested the four criminals while they were planning to commit dacoity at Chauliaganj Petrol Pump situated by the side of NH-55 (Kataka–Paradeep Road) with the intention of securing pecuniary gain.

The four have been identified as Mangulu alias Md. Arbaj (25), SK Manohar (26), Sk. Salman (28), and Ganeswar Das (23), all the residents of Jatani of Khordha district.

Investigations revealed that the arrested youths were involved in a number of theft and dacoity-related cases. They had allegedly come to Cuttack carrying deadly weapons to commit dacoity.

Two billhooks, one sharp knife with plastic cover, one crowbar, one Maruti Suzuki Swift car, Rs 2,920 in cash, one packet of chilli powder and four mobile phones were seized from their possession.
