Bhubaneswar, October 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange and yellow rainfall alerts for several districts of Odisha as a weather system is expected to approach the eastern coast. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely in multiple areas over the coming days, raising concerns over waterlogging, localised flooding and transport disruptions.
For October 27, a red warning has been issued for Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at a few places, with extremely heavy downpours possible at isolated locations.

The red alert will extend to Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts on October 28. These districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while isolated areas may experience extremely heavy showers. The intense rainfall could cause waterlogging and localised flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and flood-prone locations. Road transport may also be affected.
Meanwhile, an orange warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts for October 27.
For October 28, the orange alert will cover Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Puri, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts.
The extensive coverage of the weather alerts suggests that the impact of the anticipated rainfall may extend beyond Odisha's coastal belt to several inland districts. Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain alert, follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying locations.
