Odisha: Crack Down on Illegal LPG Hoarding, 4,992 LPG cylinders Seized

Bhubaneswar, April 16: Faced with a shortage of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders, the Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has ramped up efforts to combat illegal hoarding and unauthorized storage of LPG. In response to reports of malpractice, the Department has conducted raids at 2,503 locations across the state.

During these operations, authorities have seized a total of 4,992 illegally stored LPG cylinders. As a result, 31 cases have been filed, and 384 violations have been recorded under the Essential Commodities Act. Additionally, five individuals have been arrested for their role in the illicit storage and sale of LPG cylinders.

The government has assured citizens that India’s LPG supply chain remains stable, despite global market fluctuations due to geopolitical factors. Priority access for domestic consumers remains a key priority.

Consumers are encouraged to use digital platforms, such as SMS and IVRS, for LPG refill bookings, ensuring a smoother and more efficient service process. The public is urged not to panic or make unnecessary cylinder bookings and to rely only on official sources for accurate information.
