Jeypore, Aug 9: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday released the third installment of financial assistance under the ‘Subhadra Yojana’ on the auspicious occasion of ‘Rakhi Purnima’.

As per reports, CM Majhi distributed Rs 5,000 crore to over 1 crore women beneficiaries — each receiving Rs 5,000 — during a special programme in Jeypore town of Koraput district. The initiative also included women from border dispute areas in the Kotia Gram Panchayat under Pottangi Block.

Before the disbursement, women beneficiaries tied rakhis on the wrists of CM Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CMs KV Singhdeo and Pravati Parida, Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, and other dignitaries on the dais, marking the occasion of Rakhi Purnima.

Following the distribution, the Subhadra Yojana portal was reopened for new applications. Under the revised guidelines, young women who turn 21 will be eligible to apply, while those above 60 years of age as of March 30, 2025, will be excluded from the scheme.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2024, soon after the BJP formed the government in Odisha, the Subhadra Yojana has grown into one of the state’s largest direct benefit transfer initiatives.

In its first phase, Rs 5,000 was credited to the bank accounts of 25 lakh women across Odisha. The second phase, on October 9, 2024, benefited 39 lakh women, followed by the third phase on November 24, 2024, covering 20 lakh beneficiaries. The fourth phase, on February 8, 2025, reached over 18 lakh women, while the fifth phase, on March 6, 2025, supported 2.3 lakh women, achieving the milestone of 1 crore beneficiaries.

The second installment was released on March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The August 9 disbursement marks the third installment under the scheme, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to empowering women through direct cash transfers.
