​​​​​​​BHUBANESWAR, Aug 29: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday directed the state police to raise the conviction rate in criminal cases to at least 75 per cent and adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards organised crime, drug trafficking and extortion.

Majhi, who also holds the Home portfolio, issued the directions while addressing the state-level conference of Directors General of Police (DGPs) and Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) in Bhubaneswar.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed key security and policing issues, including law and order, internal and coastal security, cybercrime and the emerging requirements of the state's police force.

According to an official statement, Majhi laid down a 10-point action plan for the police. The guidelines emphasised improving the conviction rate, making Odisha drug-free, strengthening coastal and maritime security, and intensifying the fight against cybercrime and activities on the dark web.

The Chief Minister also called for stronger intelligence gathering mechanisms, modernisation of police stations and measures to ensure corruption-free policing.

Majhi stressed the need for firm action against organised criminal networks, drug syndicates and extortion rackets, directing the police to maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards such activities.

The directives are aimed at strengthening Odisha's overall policing system while improving the state's capacity to prevent crime, investigate cases effectively and secure convictions.
