​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, August 27: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday launched a Rs 75.60-crore rehabilitation and resettlement package for 1,371 families displaced from Golabandha in Ganjam district, ending their decades-long wait for rehabilitation.

Under the package, each eligible family will receive Rs 5 lakh in one-time assistance through DBT, involving an allocation of Rs 68.55 crore. Another Rs 4.25 crore has been earmarked for housing support, while over Rs 2.80 crore will be spent on infrastructure at Kirtipur Colony.

Majhi also distributed land and house pattas to 96 of 112 families displaced by the Cheligada Medium Irrigation Project. Each family will receive 10 decimals of homestead land and two acres of agricultural land.

The chief minister said the government was committed to providing permanent rehabilitation and secure rights to displaced families. He also highlighted development plans for Ganjam, including expansion of the blue economy, Gopalpur Port and the proposed Rs 21,500-crore Bahuda mega port.

The programme was attended by state ministers, MPs, MLAs and senior government officials.
