Bhubaneswar, October 8: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday instructed the state police administration to enforce strict surveillance on antisocial and disruptive groups across the state. The directive came during a high-level review meeting focused on the prevailing law and order situation, particularly following recent violence in Cuttack and the tragic murder of senior lawyer Pitabas Panda in Berhampur.
During the meeting, CM Majhi expressed concern over efforts by motivated groups attempting to tarnish Odisha's reputation as a peaceful state. "Such forces must be met with a firm and decisive response," he asserted.
The Chief Minister also addressed the situation in Cuttack, where normalcy has largely been restored after clashes prompted a curfew and temporary internet shutdown. While praising the efforts to stabilize the region, he urged the police to maintain heightened security and continue patrolling sensitive areas. "It is crucial to remain vigilant, continue community outreach, and ensure the preservation of social harmony," he added.
Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killing of advocate Pitabas Panda and directed the police to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face exemplary punishment.
The meeting was attended by CM's advisor Prakash Mishra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu, Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania, CM’s Principal Secretary Saswat Mishra, and senior law enforcement officials.
