Bhubaneswar, August 29: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday extended greetings to athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts across the country on the occasion of National Sports Day and paid tribute to legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary.

Majhi highlighted the achievements of athletes from Odisha who have brought recognition to the state through their performances at national and international levels. He described their accomplishments as a matter of pride for the people of Odisha.

The Chief Minister said the Odisha government was continuing its efforts to identify and nurture sporting talent among the state’s youth by providing better opportunities, advanced training and necessary support.

He said the initiatives were aimed at preparing young athletes from Odisha to excel at national and international sporting platforms.

 

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida also paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, recalling his unparalleled contribution to Indian sports. In a message marking the hockey legend’s birth anniversary, she extended National Sports Day greetings to athletes and sports enthusiasts.

 

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo paid his respects to Major Dhyan Chand, describing him as the “wizard of hockey.” In his message, Singh Deo paid tribute to the legendary sportsperson on his birth anniversary and on the occasion of National Sports Day.
