Odisha: Class IX girl rescued after jumping into Mahanadi River in Sambalpur

Sambalpur, Aug 24: The Class IX girl, who had gone missing after jumping into the Mahanadi River from the Chaurapur Bridge in Odisha's Sambalpur district this morning, has been rescued safely.

After hour of efforts, the girl Arita Bisi, a student at Budharaja High School, was found near Govindatala Bridge and admitted to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

According to eyewitnesses, Arita arrived at the bridge on her bicycle, left her schoolbag and phone behind, and then jumped into the fast-flowing river.

School officials confirmed that Arita was an orphan who had been granted free admission and study materials through government programs. She had been staying with her relatives.

Upon getting the information, Fire Services personnel arrived at the spot and launched a search operation using a powerboat to trace the girl.

Police had seized her belongings, including the bicycle, bag, and mobile phone, and initiated an investigation into the matter to ascertain the circumstances that prompted the girl to take the extreme step.
