Keonjhar, July 4: In a deeply shocking incident, a Class 6 student died after allegedly being beaten by his teacher for not completing homework in Hatadihi block of Odisha's Keonjhar district on Thursday.

The deceased child was identified as Montu Jena, son of Muna Jena from Bidyadharpur village under Balibarei panchayat. He was a Class 6 student at Balibarei High School.

As per the parents' complaint, Montu had been suffering from tuberculosis and was receiving treatment in Cuttack. After recovering, he returned to school. Given his fragile health, his mother had reportedly requested the school authorities to be considerate and not put him under any kind of pressure.

However, two days ago, Montu’s health suddenly worsened after he was allegedly beaten by a teacher for not completing his homework. When he returned home from school, he complained of feeling unwell and began vomiting.

Thereafter, Montu's parents rushed him to the Anandpur sub-divisional hospital, but he passed away while his father was trying to arrange an ambulance. After his death, the family accused the school teachers of giving him harsh punishment and beating him, despite their earlier request to consider his health condition. They also claimed that the doctors returned the body without conducting a postmortem.

On the other hand, school headmistress Aparna Behera denied the allegations. She stated that the school has been declared a punishment-free zone, and teachers do not use any form of physical force on students.
