Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has announced an ambitious plan for the development of the Mahanadi riverfront project, allocating a substantial Rs 200 crore for its advancement. This marks a significant increase from the previously allocated Rs 50 crore, with an additional Rs 150 crore now approved to enhance the project’s scope and impact. The initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize Cuttack’s waterfront area and improve urban infrastructure, aligning with the city's aspirations to become a smart city.

The project has faced several delays, notably due to a National Green Tribunal (NGT) order that suspended development activities in 2022. However, with the recent increase in funding, officials are optimistic about moving forward with the vision of creating a modern and sustainable riverfront. The enhanced riverfront is expected to not only beautify the city but also promote environmental sustainability and enhance the quality of life for residents.

The revamped Mahanadi riverfront project is set to include improved public spaces, walking paths, and recreational areas, making it a key attraction for both locals and tourists. It aims to foster community engagement and economic growth in the region. As Cuttack continues its journey towards modernization, this project represents a crucial step in transforming the city’s landscape while honoring its rich cultural heritage. With this funding boost, the government hopes to overcome past challenges and realize the potential of Cuttack as a vibrant urban center.
