The state-level preparatory meeting was chaired by Odisha Chief Electoral Officer R. S. Gopalan and attended by nodal officers, Deputy Collectors (Elections), and District Information and Public Relations Officers (DIPROs) from all districts.
During the meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer directed officials to ensure that the voter list revision exercise is carried out in a transparent, efficient, and error-free manner. He emphasised the need to streamline processes such as fresh voter enrolment, correction of entries, and migration-related updates to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded from the revised electoral roll.
Officials were instructed to make the door-to-door enumeration process simple, systematic, and free from misinformation. The CEO stressed that transparency must be maintained during field-level verification activities conducted under the SIR exercise.
The meeting also focused on preventing the spread of rumours and misleading information on social media during the voter list revision process. District Information and Public Relations Officers were directed to closely monitor online platforms and immediately counter false or misleading claims related to the electoral roll revision.
To make the process more accessible, officials informed that all enumeration forms under the SIR exercise will be made available in Odia to help voters across rural and urban areas better understand the process. Public awareness campaigns will also be intensified to encourage citizens to provide accurate information during the door-to-door survey.
The toll-free Election Helpline 1950 will be widely publicised to assist voters with information related to the revision process. Citizens can also use the helpline to seek assistance or request a callback from their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
The Chief Electoral Officer further reviewed coordination mechanisms between district administrations and the Election Department. Deputy Collectors (Elections) and nodal officers were asked to strengthen inter-departmental coordination to ensure smooth implementation of the SIR exercise.
District officials were also instructed to expedite the processing of online applications and enhance the functioning of Booth Level Officers to ensure timely completion of the revision process.
The meeting was attended by CEO R. S. Gopalan, Deputy CEO Laxmi Prasad Sahu, and other officials from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
