Bhubaneswar, June 06: The Odisha Cabinet has approved the tender for the construction of the concrete dam and spillway component of the Chheligada Irrigation Project in Gajapati district.
With an estimated cost of ₹151.78 crore, the project is designed to utilize the water resources of the Badajore river, a tributary of the Vansadhara river.
The proposed infrastructure includes a 266-meter-long concrete dam with a central spillway equipped with seven radial gates. The construction is slated for completion within 18 months.
Once completed, the Chheligada Irrigation Project is expected to deliver a range of benefits. It will provide irrigation to 6,260 hectares of agricultural land across Gajapati and Ganjam districts and supply 31.54 million cubic meters of water annually for drinking and domestic use in Berhampur town. Additionally, the project will support fisheries and livestock farming, enhance groundwater recharge, and generate 36 MW of hydroelectric power.
