Odisha Cabinet approves ₹1,600 crore “Swachha Odisha” scheme to boost urban sanitation

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: The Odisha Cabinet today approved a new state sector initiative titled “Swachha Odisha”, with an outlay of ₹1,600 crore to be implemented over five years, from 2025–26 to 2029–30.

The scheme is designed to strengthen and streamline sanitation efforts across the state by integrating multiple existing programmes into a unified framework. Through this consolidation, the Government seeks to enhance the efficiency, coordination, and impact of urban sanitation initiatives.

Under “Swachha Odisha,” the State will merge existing plans such as Solid Waste Management, Used Water Management, and Urban Septage Systems into a single comprehensive scheme. This approach aims to simplify project implementation, funding mechanisms, and monitoring processes, while ensuring consistent support to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). By bridging funding gaps, the initiative targets complete coverage and sustainable sanitation outcomes across all urban areas.

The scheme will also complement the national Swachh Bharat Mission, reinforcing efforts to make cities cleaner, healthier, and free of waste.
