Bhubaneswar, July 13: Odisha BJP president Samir Mohanty today put his party in trouble by raising the issue of rising electricity prices at a press conference, said ruling BJD.
Hitting out at BJP state president, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said he had forgotten that the public are irked over the BJP due to skyrocketing prices of consumer goods, including petrol and diesel.
Responding to the state BJP president, the BJD spokesperson said it would have been better if Mohanty had regretted his party’s failure to control price hikes and fuel price hikes.
In April this year, media outlets reported on how the BJP-ruled states had hiked electricity tariffs, the BJD leader said.
“The BJP-ruled state of Bihar has hiked electricity prices by 35 paise per unit on March 26, 2021. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh, one of the BJP-ruled states, raised the price by 64 paise per unit last year. Another BJP-ruled state, Madhya Pradesh had significantly increased electricity prices last year,” BJD spokesperson said.
Instead of telling the truth to the people, BJP is doing cheap politics over such a sensitive issue, said Mohanty.
The people of Odisha are now accustomed to the BJP’s crocodile cries and do not take their words seriously, said Lenin Mohanty.
